I’m going to focus my time this weekend (mostly tomorrow) doing some major work on the backend of toypics again. I know I say that frequently and nothing changes…but I promise things are 😀

I am preparing to open-source the application, and doing a lot to cleanup the bugs associated with that (and not embarrass myself)

OK So I just went through and cleared the backlog of videos that was stuck in the processing queue, I’m still struggling to figure out why videos keep getting stuck but I’m implementing New relic to ideally track that a little better. If you don’t see your recently uploaded video on your account, it got stuck and will need to be uploaded again.

For those of you who I’m sure will ask about your historical videos, I am still checking on them. The old servers had some pretty bad bouts of corruption and a huge amount of videos were missing from the server or entirely unusable. I’m sure many of you recall trying to watch a video and it not loading correctly on the old site. There’s a pretty good chance none of these will be recoverable because I already checked everything, but I am manually checking again

There’s been some issues with uploads getting stuck with the queues recently so I’m going to have to re-do the code for uploads and processing to handle more edge cases.

Because of that, uploads might be broken or disabled periodically for the next few days

The upload handling and file processing is by far the most complicated part of the site so it’s really finnicky. Apologies for the inconveniences

Logging in/new accounts is fixed

I pushed a massive backend update to the site so if anything is broken please let me know

Frontend and data handling stuff is done, this is what the final drawer will look like.

Tomorrow I will try to finish the implementation, add the ability to follow users, and bring both features live.
